Tuesday, May 15th, marked the 72nd birthday of McDonald's Corporation (MCD).  Back on May 15, 1940, Dick and Mac McDonald opened the first McDonald's, originally named "McDonald's Bar-B-Q," in San Bernardino California, as a typical drive-in with a large menu and car hop service, which was quite a popular format at the time.  To celebrate this date in history, albeit a couple days late, and the way that McDonald's revolutionized the food industry, today we want to take the time to quickly highlight a few facts and tidbits we've found interesting about McDonald's past, present, and future.... McDonald's Facts:

• 1948 - Menu is reduced to 15 Cent burgers, drinks, potato chips (French Fries replaced chips a year later) and slice of pie and name is changed to McDonald’s ¹
• 1955 - Ray Kroc opens first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois.  First day sales are $366.12.  By 1965 there are over 700 McDonald's restaurants throughout the US ¹
• 1965 - McDonald’s celebrates its 10th anniversary with the first public offering at $22.50 per share ¹
• 1967 - McDonald's goes international; first restaurants open in Canada and Puerto Rico.  Today they are in more than 119 countries around the world. ¹
• McDonald's sells more than 75 hamburgers every second. ²
• McDonald's $24 billion in revenue makes it the 90th largest economy in the world.²
• According to company estimates, one in every 8 American workers has been employed by McDonald's. ²
• Americans alone consume one billion pounds of beef at McDonald's in a year—five and a half million head of cattle. ³
• The Queen of England owns a McDonald's near Buckingham Palace as part of her vast real estate portfolio ⁴
• For the next three years, McDonald's is going to open one restaurant every day in China. ⁵
